📖 README — Introduction

Welcome to Bowling Brackets & Side Action — a tool for running bowling tournament brackets and side games from one place.

The Admin tab in the sidebar holds the app's global settings and data exporting.

The tabs across the top of the main section — Bowlers, Brackets, High Game, Eliminator, and Blind Draw — are where you do the day-to-day work: add bowlers, enter scores, and configure the settings for each side-action section.

Use the other README tabs (Bowlers, Brackets, High Game, Eliminator, Blind Draw) for how to set up and run each section.

📖 README — Admin

The Admin sidebar holds the global settings and data tools for the event:

  • Event Name — give the event a name. Straightforward.
  • Handicap Settings — the global handicap formula that every handicap event's scores are based on.
  • Event Export — exports everything in the event (scores, bowler names, and settings) to a JSON file. That file can be imported later to restore the event's data.
  • Import Data — loads an event back in from a JSON file created by Event Export.
  • Export Results — exports all results to an Excel file, matching what's shown in the Results tab of every section.
  • Saved Event Settings — set up the global settings for a league once, save them, then click the saved entry later to auto-configure those settings again.
    • These can change week to week in some sections depending on the number of bowlers, so review them each time before running the event.
  • Reset Data — clears all event data, including settings, scores, and bowler names.

📖 README — Bowlers

The Bowlers section is the master list that drives every side-action section. It has three parts:

Add Bowlers

Add bowlers one of three ways:

  • Enter a Name and Average manually.
  • Upload a file.
  • Copy and paste.

Bowler List

  • Set which side-action sections each bowler is in.
  • Check a section's box to auto-fill that bowler into that side action, including their average and (for handicap sections) their handicap.
  • Modify a bowler's average if needed.
  • Delete a bowler.
  • Search for a bowler.
  • Handicap is set automatically from the global Handicap Settings and the average entered when the bowler is added.

Scores

  • Enter game scores here — straightforward.
  • Scores show both scratch and handicap.
    • Example: a scratch game of 150 with an 8-pin handicap shows as 150(158).
  • Scores can only be modified here.
  • Scores sync automatically from here to all sections the bowler is entered in.
  • The default is 10 games. You can change this, but leaving it at 10 doesn't affect anything — only the scores from the games you actually enter carry over to the other side-action sections.

📖 README — Brackets

The Brackets section has two divisions, Handicap and Scratch. Both run independently of each other.

Settings

  • Set the amount per entry.
  • Print brackets for Scratch and Handicap.
  • You must click Save Settings for changes to take effect.

Bowler List/Scores

This section syncs with the Bowlers section (Bowler List and Scores).

How to set up for brackets:

  • First, the number of entries needs to be added for each bowler in the Bowlers section.
    • If those entries don't add up to complete brackets, you'll get a popup telling you how many to add or reduce for the correct amount of entries.
  • Randomize All
    • Once the entries are added and before scores are entered, click the Randomize All button. This places the bowlers into the brackets.
    • When you click this button, the entries popup appears if the number isn't correct.
    • Needs to be done before scores are added.
  • Refund Section
    • If a bowler exceeds the max number of brackets, this shows how many and how much they should be refunded.

Bracket

  • Shows the bowler and scores in the current round and as they advance.
    • Handicap is shown in the ( ) next to the bowler's name for each round.

Results

Shows details including:

  • Number of entries they have in the first game and how many they have in each round.
  • The brackets they are placed in for each game.
  • How much each bowler receives after the last round.

📖 README — High Game

Settings

  • Set the cost per entry.
  • Round down/up for Handicap and Scratch.
    • If there is an odd number of bowlers, you can select whether to take the extra bowler each round.
    • Example: You have 15 bowlers, a 50% cut is 7.5, so you can choose to take 7 (round down) or 8 (round up).
  • Handicap number of spots being paid.
    • When you enter a number, a sub-section appears to let you add how much each spot will get.
